It is believed that the Great Dane has a shoulder height of 72-80cm (28-31 inches) and weighs at minimum 50 kilograms (110 pounds) and as high as twelve Toy Poodles! Some can weigh as much as 90 kilograms (200 pounds). It is the Great Dane is a giant powerful dog, but with great grace and class. It is a large head with a deep muzzle the pronounced stop (the point where the muzzle and forehead meet) with round eyes and a sharp bite. Great Danes are referred to as the Great Dane has a long powerful neck, strong shoulders with straight forelegs that are muscular, low back, and a high-set, low-set tail.

Coat

It is believed that the Great Dane has a short smooth coat. The most recognized colors for the show include fawn (gold with black masks, black ears, and tail tips) or brindle (gold with stripes of black) Steel-blue and glossy black Harlequin (white and black spots), and “Boston” or “Mantle” (black with a white muzzle, chest and the tip of the tail). Blue and white merle Great Danes can be found, however, they aren’t recognized by all norms.

Character

Great Danes are gentle, calm, loyal, and smart. They don’t bark much however they are excellent watchdogs. The Great Dane’s “gentle giant’ name is earned through its gentle and quiet personality. Some Great Danes may drool.

Temperament

A Great Dane should be brushed using a rubber brush whenever shed to remove dead hairs. Great Danes require a substantial comfortable place to lay down inside. A healthy diet and avoiding excessive exercise is necessary in the early years of this breed. Great Danes are at risk of hip dysplasia as well as bloat, the latter is prevented with the use of a food bowl on a platform that is elevated as well as spacing meals through each day, as well as refraining from exercising immediately following meals. It is believed that the Great Dane has a lifespan of between 8 and 12 years.

Training

It is a Great Dane that requires a dominant but not too brutal trainer. It is important to train it early to not pull on the leash because it will grow to a big size. Training in obedience when young is strongly recommended for Great Dane.

Activity

A Great Dane needs a moderate amount of exercise once fully grown. Do not overdo exercise while young. It is recommended to take an everyday walk or be permitted to play outside in a large backyard. It is possible that living in apartments is not feasible in the case of Great Danes due to its size.
